Harper Creek Community Schools students experienced Hispanic culture through the third annual Spanish Cultural Awareness Project.

The event, set for March 19 at the W.K. Kellogg Auditorium, will feature a live performance by the Hispanic Flamenco Ballet, according to a community announcement. The performance aims to immerse students in authentic dance, music and cultural traditions from Spanish-speaking regions worldwide.

Blake Altazin, Konnor Brockhoeft, Gianna Canezaro, and Khloe Thomas were able to participate in the interactive section of the show and become part of the performance which highlighted different Latin and Spanish musical genres such as Flamenco, Salsa, Merengue, and Rumba. It was a great way to experience culture through dance. Thanks to Spanish Teacher Marta Luque for organizing this field trip! #sacredheartproud

On Monday, September 25, a group of 24 students from Sapulpa High School and Junior High Spanish Club went to see the Hispanic Flamenco Ballet’s presentation of “Latin Iberian Show” and “The Arts & Dance Experience.

Students were able to see traditional dances from Mexico, South America, Spain, and the Caribbean as well as participate interactively and on stage with traditional songs and dances from these countries. Following the performances, the group enjoyed lunch at Lopez Grill Mexican Restaurant in Sapulpa.

On April 11th, 2017 the Spanish classes from Juniata High School and East Juniata High School took a trip to Harrisburg, PA to see the Hispanic Flamenco Ballet Show which is performed all around the United States by the Arts and Dance Company, from New York to Texas. The performance was split into two separate shows that, through dance, revealed to the students the culture of different Spanish-speaking countries.
